Discover Gruissan: between Mediterranean village and beaches

Less than 20 minutes from our hotel in Narbonne, Gruissan offers a quintessential Mediterranean experience, combining a village full of character, fine sandy beaches, salt pans with striking colors, and wild landscapes.

Once a fishing village, it has become one of the Aude coast's most popular seaside resorts, captivating visitors with its authenticity and diverse scenery.

Stroll through Gruissan’s historic heart

You cannot visit Gruissan without getting lost in the winding, circular streets of its historic center.

Built in a circular layout (*circulade*) around the famous Barberousse Tower, the village has retained all its Mediterranean charm.

Perched on the heights, the medieval tower offers a magnificent panoramic view of the lagoons, the harbor, the salt pans, and the Mediterranean Sea.

From the top, the 360-degree view allows you to fully appreciate the natural richness surrounding Gruissan.

Discover the iconic Plage des Chalets

With over 1,000 stilt houses lined up facing the sea, the Plage des Chalets is arguably Gruissan’s most iconic landmark.

Made famous by the film *Betty Blue* (originally titled *37°2 le matin*), this family-friendly beach stretches across nearly two kilometers of sand.

Its unique atmosphere, colorful cabins, and summery vibe make it a must-visit spot during a stay on the Aude coast.

Explore the salt pans and the famous pink lake

Another unmissable attraction is the Gruissan salt pans.

Spanning over 300 hectares, this remarkable natural site reveals striking landscapes where shades of pink blend with the blue of the Mediterranean sky.

A visit allows you to discover the salt production process and learn about the history of this traditional industry that has shaped the region for centuries.

Be sure to visit the salt museum and the gourmet shop, too!

Soar Above the Landscape at Notre-Dame des Auzils

Nestled in the heart of the Massif de la Clape, the Notre-Dame des Auzils chapel overlooks the sea and the surrounding pine forests.

To reach it, follow the moving "Allée des Naufragés" (Avenue of the Shipwrecked), lined with cenotaphs dedicated to sailors lost at sea.

Upon arrival, you are greeted by a spectacular panoramic view of the Mediterranean and the coastline a peaceful spot that invites quiet contemplation.

Enjoy the Coast's Wild Beaches

Beyond the Plage des Chalets, Gruissan is home to several other remarkable beaches.

The Plage de la Vieille Nouvelle is one of the wildest along the Mediterranean coast.

Bordered by dunes and accessible via a track, it offers vast, unspoiled open spaces that are particularly popular with nature lovers, kitesurfers, and windsurfers.

Water sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy around the marina and at the many activity centers located along the coast.

The Hôtel de France welcomes you to the heart of Narbonne.
